“I am absolutely delighted with our outstanding results, and really proud of all our committed pupils. You can’t do better than to achieve Distinction for every single pupil, so congratulations and thank you to my dedicated and talented staff too!
The exams were initially planned to take place on Sunday 10th Dec, but had to be cancelled following a massive fall of snow the night before. The pupils had all performed their excellent work to parents the previous evening, so it was such a shame when the exams couldn’t take place. Ella and I spent many fraught hours trying to re-schedule the exams before Christmas, trying to find a time when all 56 pupils could attend, but in the end we had to book the first Saturday that CENTRESTAGE was open in January. We were, of course, worried that the delay would impact negatively on the pupils’ performance. But far from it. The pupils worked hard on the Saturday, and showed enthusiasm and dedication in getting their pieces back up to standard.
We took Choral Speaking exams with the NEA board this year, because they are now the only exam board who offer group Speech exams beyond Grade 3. Furthermore, they are the only board who award individual UCAS points (grade 6 upwards) for group exams.
The examiner told us that as a cohort, they had been a delight to examine, and that she was really impressed by the energy of the pupils, and by their evident delight in their work. At this point, Ella and I did not know whether such positive comments would translate into excellent grades, as the examiner had been careful not to comment on the standard of the work. Imagine our delight when the results arrived a few days later.
I would just like to finish with a special mention for my Grade 8 pupils, who received the highest mark of all – an outstanding 92%. Considering that this is the highest grade, the Grade 8 pupils should be really proud, and they will all be able to add this result to their UCAS forms later this year.
We are now beginning work on individual Speech exams, and we are looking forward to the new challenge and to exploring and performing some exciting poems, prose and drama.”
