Creative Drama
These classes cover a broad range of drama skills, from improvisation to mime, as well as devising and performing scripts. The central aims are to build confidence and stimulate imagination and creativity. We work on skills such as team building and empathy as well as classic performance skills.
In a world where pupils are under increasing pressure from all areas, classes are also extremely fun and give students an opportunity to switch off.
Creative Drama classes usually consist of approximately 20 pupils. By working in pairs, small groups and as a whole class, social skills are developed to a high degree.
Speech
It is not easy to speak in public. It is a task that many adults dread, and for which they often feel under-prepared and untrained. In today’s world, the ability to speak clearly, confidently and with appropriate expression is expected and valued more than ever, however as a subject, ‘Speech’ is rarely taught. Excellent speaking skills are needed throughout life, and our pupils will need them for a wide variety of situations, from interviews for jobs or higher education, to social and professional engagements. It takes time to develop such skills, but expression, clarity and presentation are all techniques which can be taught. The earlier we learn such skills, the easier they are to assimilate into everyday life.
Pupils will be taught in small groups and lessons will last for between 30 minutes – an hour depending on the grade. We believe that pursuing a passion which brings joy is immensely important in relieving some tensions from the lives of pupils.
There will be an opportunity for pupils who so wish to take examinations run by the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). LAMDA is one of the UK’s oldest and most respected awarding bodies. These examinations are fully accredited and recognised, and at higher levels they carry UCAS (university entrance) points. We are proud to say that we consistently achieve high results in our LAMDA exams across the board.
Acting
The aim of our Acting sessions is to teach confidence, empathy, team building, a control of facial expressions and body language in both individual and group situations. We offer examination opportunities for all our pupils and aim to instil the belief into every student that they belong centre stage. We believe that pursuing a passion which brings joy is immensely important in relieving some tensions from the lives of pupils.
